The course of lectures consists of two parts - the general linguistics and history of linguistics. The first of them is devoted to the consideration of issues related to the three sections of linguistics: external linguistics, linguistic epistemology and inner linguistics. In external linguistics, the language is considered in connection with four types of objects: physical, biological, psychological and cultural. In the inner linguistics, on the contrary, it is regarded independently of the extralyingvistic reality. Linguistic gnoseology aims to study issues related to the description of general scientific and actually linguistic approaches to the study of language phenomena. In the second part of the course, the concepts of the most prominent representatives of linguistic science are analyzed. For students and graduate students of philological faculties, as well as for all who are interested in the problems of the theory of language and linguistic historiography
