Field Marshal Pyotr Aleksandrovich Rumyantsev-Zadunaisky was an outstanding Russian military leader of the mid-18th century. His name first became famous during the Seven Years' War of 1756-1763. Through his victories in the Russo-Turkish War of 1768-1774, he forced the Turks to sign the extremely advantageous Kuchuk-Kainarji Peace Treaty for Russia, securing its access to the Black Sea. He also contributed significantly to the development of Russian military art. The life and military career of this remarkable individual are detailed in a book by military historian A.V. Shishov.
