He is the creator of the Korochansky school of gardening. In 1894, at the International Farmings Exhibition in St. Petersburg, Korochansky apples were awarded a large gold medal, and in 1896 at the All -Russian exhibition in Nizhny Novgorod - a diploma of the first degree. He was familiar with I.V. Michurin, who named one of his best varieties of roses" N. I. KICHUNOV ". In 1920-1929, he was a professor at the Petrograd Agricultural Institute (Department of Fasting) and at the same time from 1923 to the end of his life Nikolai Ivanovich worked at the All-Union Institute of Botanika and new applied crops.
