The first book 'Fundamentals of Firm Theory. Introduction to the Subject' presents the firm as the main organizational unit of the national economy in the process of its historical development: from its defining role in the creation of ancient world trading states to the present day, from the firm's influence on the Great Recession to the birth of 'new capitalism' in China. The role of the firm in the emergence of capitalism is explored, its impact on the rise of Europe is analyzed, its significance in the first and second industrial revolutions, in the creation of corporate capitalism at the end of the 19th century and its crisis in the 1970s-1980s. The defining influence of the firm on technological progress and the scientific-technical revolution of the second half of the 20th century is noted. The development of the firm as a social institution is considered simultaneously with the evolution of methods of organizing and managing the firm: from the first accounting systems to strategic and operational management at the end of the 20th - beginning of the 21st century, including TQM, 'Six Sigma', business process reengineering, total IT utilization, new models like holacracy, 'teal organization', and so on. In the context of the firm's development as an economic phenomenon, methods of its organization and management, the evolution of views on the nature and theory of the firm, and a critical analysis of the main directions of firm theory are discussed. The book will be useful for researchers, university professors, and students, as well as anyone interested in economics and economic theory issues.
