The monograph is dedicated to the history of the emergence and development of the concept of fundamental physical constants, which play a central role in modern physics. The first part presents the history of the appearance of constants such as the speed of light, Planck's constant, and elementary charge. The second part examines the history of interaction constants - gravitational constant, Fermi constant, fine-structure constant, and strong interaction constant. The third part analyzes the origin of terminology, the main properties of fundamental constants, models of the evolution of physical theories from the perspective of fundamental constants, natural unit systems based on fundamental constants. The fourth part is devoted to the main scientific research programs of the 20th century with different approaches to fundamental constants: attempts to introduce new fundamental constants, 'Pythagorean' attempts to justify their numerical values, identification of possible dependencies of some physical constants on cosmological time, anthropic program.
