The monograph presents a new scientific idea, which consists of the necessity and possibility of problematizing the question of the category of functional-syntactic homonymy of the primary preposition. For the first time, the volume and content of the functional-syntactic homonymy of the preposition and its types (models) have been researched and described. Criteria for correlating homonymy and polysemy have been identified, highlighting similarities and differences. Objective factors that determine the emergence and functioning of prepositional homonymy have been established. The polyfunctionality of the studied category is justified as a cognitive-functional phenomenon. Mechanisms and factors of neutralizing the homonymy of primary prepositions in the superficial syntactic structure of the utterance are revealed. The monograph is addressed to a wide range of readers: linguists, terminologists, scholars, lexicographers, teachers, university students, and anyone interested in the problems of a categorical approach to language and the verbalization of various types of knowledge.
