"This essay is intended to expose the dark machinations of rulers against the people, the secret methods, tricks, and schemes they use to crush freedom, as well as the bloody actions accompanying despotism," wrote Jean-Paul Marat in one of his works. Alongside Danton and Robespierre, he is a key inspiration of the Great French Revolution, which attempted to implement the principles of liberty, equality, and fraternity in practice. During the revolution, a fierce struggle against tyranny had to be waged to create a just state. Marat, Danton, and Robespierre wrote about this, as well as about the new society that was to be built on the ruins of the old world, in their articles and pamphlets, and spoke about it in their speeches. The most prominent of these works are presented in this book.
