There are so-called "fox tales" in the whole world, telling about a cunning animal that outwits stronger animals - the wolf and the bear.
In the Russian folk tale "Fox and Wolf", the red-haired trickster easily deceives a simple peasant and steals fish from him, teaches the foolish wolf to catch fish with its tail in a hole in the ice, smearing itself with kvass, and makes the wolf, who suffered because of her, carry her on his back. Just like in real life: the experienced manipulator Fox is not averse to enriching herself at the expense of trusting and ignorant characters.
It is not surprising that some expressions from this tale have become winged:
"Freeze, freeze, wolf's tail",
"One beaten carries another".
Thanks to the tale, a child understands that a selfish invention, no matter how implausible and incredible it may seem (catching fish with a tail!), will always find a fool who believes in it. With the help of adults, the child will make another useful conclusion: in difficult life situations, resourcefulness and ingenuity help, not strength.
The illustrator of the book, the wonderful artist Nikolay Ustinov, has a subtle understanding of the text and a special perception of the child's world. His memorable drawings are an integral part of the tale's plot, they awaken the child's imagination, inviting them to look and read the book again and again.
Recommended for reading by adults.
