O. Henry is the pseudonym of William Sydney Porter, a recognized master of stories with unexpected endings. The collection 'Four Million' first appeared in 1906. At that time, there was a special elite class in New York - millionaires who lived a secluded life. It consisted of no more than four hundred people, and journalists believed that only these people deserved interest. O. Henry disagreed with them, he believed that all four million residents of New York were equally worthy of attention. After this book, O. Henry became famous throughout America.
