The seventh volume of the collective monograph "Foundations of African Linguistics" completes the series, which previously included six volumes: "Nominal Categories" (1997), "Morphemics and Morphology" (2000), "Verb" (2003), "Lexical Subsystems. Word Formation" (2008), "Syntax of Nominal and Verbal Groups" (2010), "Diachronic Processes and Genetic Relationships" (2014). This volume examines the issues of language contact in Africa from various perspectives: the general perspective and history of language interactions on the African continent and its projection onto specific cases of lexical borrowing in Pular-Fulfulde, the place of contact phenomena in comparative-historical linguistics, contacts of related languages (based on Bantu and Mande languages), including those leading to the emergence of a lingua franca idiom (using Lingala as an example), areal factor in morphosyntax (using Kwa and Gur languages as examples), and creole languages of Africa.
