In the book of the French Researcher, Professor at the University of Paris - Sorbonne (Paris 4) Catherine Dependo Russian formalism is considered in the widest context, both Russian and foreign. The context of this is the historical poetics of Veselovsky and Pushkin Seminary of Wengerov, European Linguistics and Psychology, poetry of symbolists, acmeist and futurists. Reconstructing the history of the group as a whole and the individual fates and concepts of the founding fathers of formalism (Yu.N. Ttynyanov, B.M.Eyhenbauma, V.B.Sklovsky), the delay describes the relations of St. Petersburg / Leningrad formalists with the nearest colleagues (R.OO . Saksson, E.D. Polyivanov, Moscow Linguistic Circle) and students (B.Y. Bukhstab) Special attention is paid to the relationships of formalism with modern poetry (V.V. Majakovsky, B.L.Pasternak in the 1920s) and fiction (Roman V.A.Kaveryin "Scandalist") As a result, a holistic picture of the development of the formal school is created from a detailed analysis of individual ideas and biographies
