Felix is the hero of the story "Forgive Felix," the foreman of a fishing brigade for autumn and under-ice fishing on the Yenisei River. His workers are special settlers from the disbanded German Volga Republic in 1941. Fulfilling the plan is a matter of life and death for both the foreman and the brigade, there is no room for human feelings here. An amazing encounter with the sixteen-year-old settler Maria breaks through Felix's "petrified insensitivity" of the soul. The book also includes stories about life in the Altai backwoods during the wartime and post-war period (1941-1956).
