The events of the story Sergei Dovlatov “Foreigne”, written in 1985-1986, take place in the Russian area of New York, where the author himself lived. Here is how Dovlatov describes this peculiar, cheerful island: “We are six brick buildings around a supermarket inhabited mainly by Russians. That is, recent Soviet citizens. Or, as newspapers write, - emigrants of the third wave ... We have Russian shops, kindergartens, photo studio and hairdressers. There is a Russian bureau of travel. There are Russian lawyers, writers, doctors and real estate traders. There are Russian gangsters, crazy and prostitutes. There is even a Russian blind musician. ”
