'Foreign Literature' ('FL') is a Russian literary and artistic magazine specializing in the publication of translated literature. The magazine was founded in July 1955 as an organ of the governing body of the Union of Soviet Writers and is published monthly.
Foreign prose and poetry, essays and sketches, documentary prose, letters and memoirs, articles and interviews, laureates of the Nobel, Booker, and Goncourt prizes, and rising stars - all of this is published in 'FL' for the first time in Russian, in translations by the best domestic translators. The magazine's motto is 'Discover the classics of tomorrow!'.
The pages of 'Foreign Literature' continue to feature major figures of contemporary and classical literature, laureates of the Booker Prize in recent years. The magazine also publishes previously unknown to the Russian reader prose writers, poets, playwrights - they hold great promise in their countries, receive national awards, but are translated into Russian for the first time.
In almost every issue, the magazine publishes reviews, annotations, feedback on works of foreign authors released in Russian, as well as in the original language, articles dedicated to the current problems of literary translation.
