Yukio Mishima is the most famous and widely read Japanese writer in the world. He became famous for his works in all imaginable genres (novels, plays, short stories, essays) as well as for his extravagant lifestyle and death (committing seppuku after an unsuccessful attempt at a monarchist coup). In the novel "Forbidden Colors," which concludes a kind of trilogy started by Mishima's most famous novels worldwide - "Confessions of a Mask" and "The Temple of the Golden Pavilion," an aging writer meets a beautiful young man and turns him into a weapon of revenge against all the women who once caused him suffering... "Mishima's meticulous psychological analysis is reminiscent of Stendhal, and the depth of exploration of the human urge for self-destruction is akin to Dostoevsky" (The Christian Science Monitor).
