The collection of Vladimir Mayakovsky's 'For the Voice', consisting of thirteen poems, is a register book constructed by the outstanding artist Lazar (El / El) Lissitzky and published in Berlin under the label 'GIZa' in the spring of 1923. This is the most famous book of Russian constructivism and one of the most well-known books of the world's classical avant-garde. Lissitzky was honored with an invitation to the international Gutenberg Society for this book. It is a manifesto book, a programmatic work of the master: through the means of typesetting and layout, not only the utilitarian task of designing a specific book is innovatively solved, not only are new typographic possibilities of influencing the reader demonstrated, but also an interactive visual book of the future is declared.
Much later, the book was repeatedly reproduced in facsimile in the West - and even its copies, not to mention the originals, are gems of any book collection. This annotated edition is the first in Russia, it is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the book's publication and the 130th anniversary of Mayakovsky's birth.
Among the materials published for the first time are Lissitzky's autobiography and interviews, where he emphasizes the symbolic nature of the design of 'For the Voice', the mythologem of Mayakovsky's voice is actualized, responses of contemporaries to the book are collected for the first time, as well as examples of pastiches following Lissitzky's design.
