The monograph is the first in the domestic history of science attempt by an integrated, in-depth study of the history of the Academy of Sciences in the turning point of Russia"s development. It reflects the activities of the Academy of Sciences for the Development of Enlightenment Traditions, the preservation of monuments of history and culture, management and participation in local history movement, the organization of publishing and others. Much attention is paid to the study of the Academy"s relationship with state power, since this largely determined the results of its entire activities . The book shows the role of the oldest academic institutions and a number of bright representatives of academic science.
The publication is dedicated to the 275th anniversary of our Academy of Sciences
