Vera Vasilyevna Chaplina (1908-1994) was a children's writer-animalist, author of scripts for several feature and animated films. Her life and work were closely connected with the animal world and the Moscow Zoo. It was Vera Chaplina who came up with and organized the famous young animals' playground, which still exists to this day. Here, on one territory, babies of completely different animals, abandoned by their parents, coexisted. The writer not only fed the babies herself and took care of them in every way, but also observed them, kept diary entries, and composed stories about her wards for children. The collection includes some of Vera Chaplina's most famous animal stories - "Fomka - the white bear cub", "How the hare lives in the forest", "How the fox lives in the forest", "How the bear lives in the forest", as well as a series of short stories - "Birds under our window". Illustrations by E. Sitnikova. For elementary school age.
