Life on Earth could not exterminate either the fall of huge asteroids, or the gigantic eruptions of volcanoes, and the “floods” and the change of magnetic poles were insignificant events from the point of view of its existence. We can say that living creatures only rallied in the face of common adversities. The last 3.5 billion years, it is they who work hard on the ground, throwing it either in heat or cold - changing the climate of the planet from greenhouse to glacial and vice versa, and at the same time change themselves: with each climate change, more and more creatures arise. So, the product of the last glacial era was mammoths, cacti and, possibly, a person who is far from the first and not the last in an endless series of organisms turning into each other. Andrei Zhuravlev’s book tells how paleontology helps to understand the present and future of our planet.
