The main ideas and problems of modern social philosophy are analyzed. Open and closed societies are opposed as those two poles, between which the human history unfolds. Different civilizations move in their development from one pole to another, but it cannot be said that one of these poles is light, and another shadow. A linear stage approach to history is combined with a civilizational approach. Special attention is paid to modern society and historically foreseeable prospects for its development, social institutions, the factors of the sustainability of society and its dynamics, the concepts of freedom, equality and justice. Philosophical anthropology and social knowledge philosophy are considered as sections of social philosophy.
