The author of this book has always been closely inside any one, separately taken humanitarian discipline, as well as inside a particular scientific dogma. Starting with field archeology, the outstanding scientist L.S. Klein (b. 1927) devoted a lot of time and effort to theoretical problems related to the basics of archaeological knowledge. In his student years, he made a report that criticized then the "new doctrine of the language" N.Ya. Marra. In the mid-1960s, he initiated a new round in the dispute about the role of the Normans in the formation of ancient Russian statehood, having made the antipatriotic "at that time of the Norman positions". In the mid-1980s, he turned to the study of the "Iliad", questioning both the author’s unity of this text and the location of the ancient Troy recognized since the time of G. Shliman. Perennial classes of archeology and cultural anthropology, issues of ethnogenesis and the formation of humanities, academic studies and teaching have gained another form in recent years - intellectual journalism, the subject of which was the practical existence of scientific knowledge. In the essay collected here, science acquires an almost lost voice now, not wanting to dissolve in the choir of state and church patriotism, a distinction of pseudo -scientific searches and administrative imperatives of the academic authorities
