In this book, the iconic figures of the Russian revolutionary avant -garde appear in an unusual perspective: film director Dziga Vertov - as a writer, poet Vladimir Mayakovsky - as a film actor, screenwriter and organizer of film production. Using the method of "parallel installation", the author of the monograph discoves numerous, sometimes unexpected intersections in the life and work of his heroes: similarities of fate and aesthetic programs, mutual citation, attempts to learn from each other. The reader unfolds the "full -length creative conversation" of Vertov and Mayakovsky in the context of "poetics of the era". Author"s analysis is complemented by valuable applications, including Mayakovsky’s texts, dedicated to cinema, and Vertov’s first published poems.
