The collective work of employees of the foreign department of the Research Institute of Cinema "Foreigners in Hollywood, or how to survive in the era of global cinema" is a continuation of the book "Journey in the century", published in our publishing house in 2014
It presented biographies of European directors, working in Hollywood in the first half of the twentieth century and had a huge impact on the aesthetics of American cinema of those years.
This book presents portraits of 67 directors who took the most active part in the formation and development of American cinema during the second half of the 20th - early XXI centuries. They arrived in Hollywood from different parts of the world - from Australia, China, Mexico, India, Canada and, of course, Europe. Some immediately adopted the rules of the game of the American Cinema Industry. There were a majority. Others returned to their homeland after several productions. There were those who managed to preserve their rules and even impose them on Hollywood. But there were units - James Cameron, Ridley Scott, Milos Forman, Edrian Line.
What contribution to foreign directors made to the formation of modern trends in American cinema, what they had to do, obeying Hollywood aesthetics - all this is considered in this book
