The culture of the Russian abroad of the beginning of the 20th century is a special phenomenon generated by exceptional historical circumstances and is still not sufficiently studied. In particular, one of the parts of his heritage - the film thought of emigration - is poorly familiar to the modern reader due to the inaccessibility of many emigrant periodicals of the 1920s. The collection, compiled by the famous historian Kinit Rashit Yangirov, is designed to fill the gap and introduce this cultural phenomenon into the context of actual humanitarian science. The book includes publications of Russian film critics, writers, actors, philosophers, musicians and artists of 1918-1930 with reflections on the specifics of cinema, its social role and prospects, about world, Soviet and emigrant cinema. Many of them have never been reprinted, although they contained interesting observations and discussions about the recently arising form of art. Gathered together, they give an idea of the polemics of that time and a variety of points of view on the cinema. Rashit Yangirov (1954-2008) - cinema historian, candidate of philological sciences, author of many publications on the cinematic life of the Russian foreign countries, including the books "other cinema: articles on the history of Russian cinema of the first third of the twentieth century", published in the UFO series "series" in 2011.
