Herbert Wells was vividly interested in the future. A powerful impulse, which the writer gave science fiction, is still felt. He wrote his novel “War in the Air” in 1907 - just a few years after the first flights of the Wright brothers. Knowledge and intuition allowed Wells to draw the bold paintings of the future, but the main thing in them is not the prediction of monorail, motorcycles or large -scale development of the air ocean, but a premonition of the inevitable world war, which delays more and more countries into its deadly whirlpool. Unfortunately, Weles providence came true in 1914. The writer happened to see in his lifetime and the Second World War, which he also predicted. It is no coincidence that in 1941, five years before his death, Wells wished that in the text of the epitaph, the phrase “I warned you, published after his death. You are a damned fools! ” Another famous novel of the writer - “When the Whiper wakes up” - can be attributed to the genre of anti -utopia. The supplemented and processed version was published in 1910. The success of this novel, like almost all Welles" works, was not based on the colorful descriptions of life in the XXI century far from it, how much on the disappointing social forecasts of the writer, who claimed that in the distant future one tyranny will still be replaced by another, and the other will be replaced by another, and The life of a simple layman, on which little depends, will remain anxious. And in the 21st century, these masterfully written works continue to maintain their extraordinary popularity. More than a hundred illustrations of foreign artists were used in the design of the collection: A. Michael, A. Lano, F. Zhenishek and E. Sullivan
