The socio -philosophical novel "Hour of the Bull" is the most significant work of the writer, which has become a shock for fans of his work. This novel is a kind of anti -utopia that warns the world about the dangers lurking in the rapid progress of the soulless civilization. The aged mind gives rise to monsters - this is how the world of Inferno arises - continuous and endless, hopeless suffering. In Soviet times, this book was removed from shops and libraries almost immediately after its publication. Critics were silent about her, and after the death of the author, his apartment was searched in order to find evidence of Ivan Efremov’s connection with a secret anti -Soviet society.
“In the "hour of the bull", I presented the planet to which the Earthlings group moved, they repeat the pioneering conquest of the West of America, but on a much higher technical basis. Incredibly accelerated population growth and capitalist management led to the depletion of the planet and mass mortality from hunger and disease. The state system on a robbed planet, of course, should be oligarchic. In order to build a model of such a state, I continued to the future of those trends of gangster fascist monopolism, which are now emerging in America and some other countries trying to maintain the “freedom” of private entrepreneurship on a dense nationalist basis.
It is clear that it is not the science and technique of a distant future or the strange civilizations of the immensely distant worlds became the goal of my novel. People of the future land, grown by the centuries -old existence of the highest, communist form of society, the contrast between them and the same earthlings, but formed in the oppression and tyranny of the oligarchic system of another planet, is the main goal and content of the book. ” - Ivan Efremov
