"Reserve for academicians" is the fifth novel of the incomplete cycle "River Chronos". Kir Bulychev worked on the cycle since 1992, and it was then that the first excerpts of the novel appeared. This book was completed two years later, after which the work became available to a wide circle of readers. In the "Reserve for Academics", Andrei and Lidia Berestovs continue their time in time, and the fate of the physicist Matvey Shavlo, whom Lydia meets, becomes the center of the plot. Shavlo can either die or survive and create nuclear weapons, which will subsequently be used by the Soviet Union in the war against Germany
