The Anthology includes stories and novels of Western European, American and Australian writers of the XIX - XX centuries. These works, with all their diversity, are united by the theme of the supernatural, which invades the measured course of everyday life. The authors involve their heroes and readers in a terrible Gothic world full of metaphysical and psychological mysteries that are not amenable to familiar, rational explanations. The incomprehensible game of chance, traps of time and space, fateful meetings with their own second “I”, with the obsessed with the thirst for blood of vampires, with the suddenly resurrected inhabitants of the graves and, of course, with the ethereal spirits of the dead become a serious test for characters living in the era of steam engines and iron roads.
