The novel by Alexei Tolstoy “Hyperboloid Engineer Garin” is one of the best fantastic works of his time, reflecting the theme of radiation weapons popular at that time. In 1925, when the book began to be published in the journal Krasnaya Nov magazine, the world public once again excited the news about the allegedly successful tests of the next device emitting the Ray of Death. It is not surprising that the “Hyperboloid engineer Garin” was perceived almost as a real story, which was facilitated by the fact that many genuine facts were woven into the plot canvas. Subsequently, the plot of the novel was criticized as based on assumptions impossible from the point of view of physics, but this does not cancel the artistic value of the work
