Larry Niven is one of the ten best fantasy writers, he stands on a par with Isaek Azimov and Arthur Clark. Having debuted in 1964 with the story “The Cold Place”, he wrote dozens of successful works in half a century, in which scientific discoveries and futurological forecasts are skillfully combined with exciting adventures. Many of these novels and short stories formed in the epic cycle Famous Cosmos. It describes the story of the future: having overcome earthly gravity, humanity is conducting a constant struggle for survival and development - mastering the near planets and asteroids, faced with hostile aliens, sending transports to inhospitable stars. For achievements in the genre of science fiction, Larry Niven was awarded the title of Grandmaster. He was five times awarded the Hugo Prize and twice - “Nebum”. In addition, he is a laureate of the Luscus award, the memorial award of Edward E. Smith, the World Fantasy Award, Robert E. Heinlina Prize and others. Almost all the works included in the collection are published either in new, or in corrected and supplemented translations
