Jonathan Swift (1667-1745)-Anglo-Irish satirist writer, philosopher, poet and public figure.
For the most part, he is known as the author of the satirical novel "Gulliver"s journey", the first two parts of which saw the light in 1726. The success of the book was stunning: in the first months, the book instantly sold out the book, after which the circulations were printed several times.
Soon the novel gained fame abroad. In 1772-1773, the book "Travels of Gulliver" was first published in Russia. She earned a special praise of such eminent authors as Leo Tolstoy and Maxim Gorky. Later, the novel was repeatedly translated and retold, adapting the text to the children"s audience. This is a story about the ship doctor Lemuel Gulliver, who, after a shipwreck, enters the country of Lilipathy, inhabited by the Liliputs. They capture Gulliver captured, taking the oath of complete obedience from him.
Having miraculously escaped from an unprecedented country, Gulliver returns home, but soon a new adventure awaits him: he gets into the country of giants, Brobdingneg, where he will face new unexpected difficulties ... to date, Gulliver"s travels - one of the most read books , based on which films and cartoons were shot more than once.
The first two parts of the novel were included in our book: "Gulliver in the Lilliputs Country" and "Gulliver in the country of giants" in the abbreviated retelling of M. Mikhailov.
