After the nuclear war, the Earth turned into a desert covered with radioactive dust. Animals die off, people emigrate to extraterrestrial colonies. The remaining vocational existence in the collapsed cities. Police officer Rick Descartes gets a task to find and destroy the group of androids who escaped from the external colony to Earth. But gradually Rick begins to wonder: how are androids differ from people? And where is the border running, what divides them? The novel was nominated for an award of the incomplete and was shielded by Ridley Scott in 1982
