Fiction, like any creative phenomenon, cannot stand still, it exists to look behind the visible horizon and see the future of man and planet. Although there were times in our history when the zealous literary guards tried to shoot her and tie her to the ground. For this volume of “good old science fiction”, we tried to choose the best, in our understanding, samples of the genre created in the 1970-inventions of the 1980s. It is worth saying that this period for domestic science fiction was also not very simple - the heads, however, did not fly, but the nuts spun seriously. The story with the Brothers Strugatsky and the publishing house Young Guard confirmation of this. The old people - G. Gurevich, A. Shalimov, S. Snegov, Z. Yuryev, V. Savchenko worked fruitfully. New names appeared - L. Panasenko, S. Druil, V. Nazarov, A. Yakubovsky, P. Amnuel, B. Stern, V. Golovachev, B. Rudenko. The newcomers did not change, did not pure trusted masters, they complemented and enriched our fiction, as they enrich the ground for the future crop.
We called this volume Created to fly, according to the name of the story of D. Bilenkin, who entered the collection. The name is symbolic. And not because it paraphrases the well -known quote from Gorky. Whatever you say, but fantastic literature of dreams, a person from birth dreamed of heaven and stars. And the first to the stars was led by science fiction
