The emergence of the dissident movement, early samizdat, the dispute between Sakharov and Solzhenitsyn, the trials of Jewish refuseniks, and the escapades of the 'bulldozer' artists - the biography of scientist and human rights activist Alexander Goldfarb is closely linked to the most important events of the Cold War era. His memoirs are not only read as valuable evidence of Soviet life, but also as a suspenseful novel: at the center of the narrative are the attempts of the KGB to uncover the sources of leakage of information about the secret biological weapons program. Carefully reconstructing all the fragments of this convoluted story, the author simultaneously reflects deeply on the fate of several generations of his family and peers, as well as his own relationship with the Soviet state. Alexander Goldfarb is a microbiologist, publicist, and social activist. He graduated from the biological faculty of Moscow State University, worked at the Kurchatov Institute of Atomic Energy. In 1975, he emigrated to Israel and now lives in the United States.
