Fashion Theory: Clothing, Body, Culture magazine is the first humanitarian magazine in Russia dedicated to fashion as a cultural phenomenon. The range of topics includes the history of costume and design, bodily practices, historical perceptions of beauty and fashionable figure, fashion and urban life (architecture, street fashion, cafes, shopping routes), fashion and art. The magazine features analytical materials on contemporary fashion: the creativity of famous designers, issues of fashion consumption, fashion journalism, fashion and PR, fashion and photography. The magazine publishes translations of articles by Western scholars from the leading international fashion journal Fashion Theory: The Journal of Dress, Body & Culture, works of Russian costume historians, classic texts on fashion theory.
Fashion Theory is the only magazine in the country focused on interdisciplinary research of fashion in an academic key, which fundamentally distinguishes it from other fashion publications that have a commercial character. At the same time, Fashion Theory is not a 'boring' scientific almanac on the history of costume, as the main topics are related to current fashion issues in a broad humanitarian context. The authors of the magazine reflect on the symbolic language of fashion from such unexpected perspectives as corporeality, visual perception, performance, mass culture, history of ideas, politics, economics.
Fashion Theory is a quarterly publication for everyone who is seriously interested in fashion, is preparing to become a professional in the fashion industry, and would like to truly delve into the history of costume and fashion theory. One of the goals of the publication is to create a professional community of representatives of different specialties interested in studying fashion.
