After the events of the “modified carbon” Takesi Kovach, a former extraordinary envoy and a former private detective, finds himself far from the ground, on the planet Sanction IV, where he participates in an operation to suppress a revolutionary rebellion, which soon goes into a full -scale massacre. But it is in this world disfigured by the war that a treasure is lurking, capable of turning human history: a portal to the current ship of alien civilization. Together with a detachment of mercenaries, Kovach sets off in search of an artifact, not yet knowing what the secrets of the aliens that have disappeared will have to pay the highest price, and in a collision with technologies, whose possibilities are incredible, and secrets are monstrous, even the skills of even the most experienced soldiers will not help
