Mitya Merkulov, the son of a talented (and extremely fundamental) investigator and Princess Moranovna, for whom, because of her anemia, there was no better groom. Mitya dreams of living for his pleasure: to order expensive frock coats, to walk around the social racks, to be represented by the imperial court ... But his father got too deep into the secrets of the reigning house, and, either as a reward, or as a punishment, both Merkulov had to leave the capital .
