The third volume of the “History of Middle -earth” gives us a unique opportunity to look at the creation of the mythology of Middle -earth through the prism of poetic transformations of the two most significant subjects of the Tolkinovsky world: legends about Turin and Lutien. The first of the poems, the grandiose unpublished “Song of Children"s Children”, is dedicated to the tragedy of Turin Turammbar. The second, penetrated “Ley O Lithyan”, the main source of legend about Berena and Lutien in the “Silmarillion”, tells about the campaign for the silmarils and the clash with the morgot in his underground fortress. Poems are accompanied by comments about the evolution of the history of ancient days. The book also includes a curious critical analysis of Leitian K.S. Lewis, who read the poem in 1929
