The new book of N. V.ovchinnikov tells about some figures of Russian science of the XIX-XX centuries, who were a kind of icons in circles of the so-called democratic intelligentsia. Among them are biologists of swordsmen, Timiryazev, Vavilov brothers and others. The author shows that the noisy advertising of these persons in the leftal and Soviet press was due not so much by scientific achievements as the ideological conjuncture and corporate solidarity of the clans formed in pre -revolutionary Russian and Soviet science.
