The author of this book was born in St. Petersburg in the family of a military engineer almost 150 years ago - in 1875. Lida's mother died during childbirth, and the girl was raised by her mother's sisters. After graduating from the Pavlov Institute for Noble Maidens, Lydia began attending drama courses at the Imperial Theater School, where she adopted the pseudonymcharskaya. After the courses, Lydia began working at the Alexandrian Theater. Money was tight, so the girl decided to pursue writing - based on the diary she kept during her time at the Institute for Noble Maidens, she wrote a novella and published it in parts in a magazine. This novella, titled 'Notes of an Institute Girl,' was a huge success among teenagers, especially girls, and soon Lydia Charskaya became a famous and popular writer. Surveys conducted in 1911 showed that at that time, children of middle school age most often read the works of A. S. Pushkin, N. V. Gogol, and Lydia Charskaya.
But Lydia Alexeevna did not only write for teenagers - she created many fairy tales for younger children. In this book, we have collected six fairy tales by Lydia Charskaya (she wrote a total of 20 fairy tales, 80 novellas, and numerous poems). The fairy tales included in our collection are very diverse: about friendship and cruelty, loyalty and greed, kings and peasants - but each of them will make young readers think, rejoice, or be saddened, and, of course, forever fall in love with the books of Lydia Alexeevna Charskaya, which were so popular among children and youth a hundred years ago.
We named this book 'Fairy's Gift' not only because one of the fairy tales in the collection is titled that way. The thing is, fairies are frequent guests in Charskaya's fairy tales. They help those with kind hearts, fulfill the most incredible wishes, and sometimes find themselves in amazing adventures.
For younger school-age children. All texts of the works are provided without abridgment.
