Mikhail Yevgrafovich Saltykov-Shchedrin (1826–1889) was a famous Russian writer, satirist, journalist, editor of magazines, and government official. In his youth, he studied at the Tsarskoye Selo Lyceum, where he first showed an inclination towards composing poetry. Over time, the future writer abandoned poetry and began working in prose. Saltykov-Shchedrin started writing fairy tales later in his life, using the genre to create a wicked parody of officials, fashionable poets, and other representatives of his time, thereby enhancing the comedic effect of his works. This book includes such works by the classic of Russian literature as "The Wild Landowner," "The Wise Piskaryov," "The Bear on the Governorship," "The Tale of How a Peasant Fed Two Generals," and many others. Suitable for middle school age.
