The authors of the proposed publication, most of whom are well-known specialists in the field of classical philology, Slavic studies, Russian studies, and diachronic linguistics, present themselves in a somewhat unexpected guise for the readership: the subject of their research is historical facts, texts, and documents that have had a noticeable impact on the life and development of language. The thematic breadth of the publication is determined by a semiotic approach, where past events are considered in the context of cultural history, i.e. changing worldviews. This approach involves reconstructing the system of representatives that determine both the perception of certain events in a given society and the reaction to these events, which is a direct impulse of the historical process. In this case, the researcher is interested in cause-and-effect relationships at a level that is closely, directly related to the event plan, rather than indirectly. Thus, the authors of the collection attempt to see the historical process through the eyes of its participants, consciously moving away from the objectivist historiographical tradition that retrospectively describes events from an external perspective.
