Ivan Andreyevich Krylov (1769–1844) was a Russian writer, publicist, fabulist, and an academician of the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences (1841). He wrote over 200 fables known for their satirical sharpness and vivid imagery. Krylov's fables exposed societal and human vices such as rudeness, greed, ingratitude, and cunning. Nikolai Gogol called Krylov's fables "a book of wisdom of the people themselves."
