Reinhard Kaiser-Mühlecker (b. 1982) is a well-known Austrian writer, a laureate of several literary awards, and the author of the novels "The Long Way to Oneself" (2008), "A Stranger's Soul, Dark Forest" (2016), and "Poacher" (2022).
In the novel "Extraction" (2019), a journalist who has seen the world returns to his hometown and spends his days working at the local newspaper and occasionally flying over the surrounding areas in a rented plane. Despite considering himself a detached observer, he gradually becomes more immersed in local life, becoming a part of it. The initially uneventful narrative gradually unfolds into a panorama of Austrian countryside, filled with conflicts and existential issues.
