Readers are offered a book by the French philosopher and psychologist J. Fonsegrive (1852--1917), which explores the question of free will from a historical perspective. The author presents various philosophical views on the problem of free will, starting from ancient religious beliefs of paganism and ending with the contemporary English and French philosophy of his time. The publication is a reprint reproduction of the book from 1899, 'An Essay on Free Will. Part I. Historical,' which has become a bibliographic rarity and can be considered a completely independent work.
The book is recommended for philosophers, historians of philosophy, psychologists, and all interested readers.
