In basic university courses on "History of Russian Journalism" and "History of Russian Literature," the type of publication known as an almanac is traditionally considered selectively. However, historically almanacs occupied an extremely significant space in the printing system, and at certain periods they dominated over journals. The chronological framework of the material in this textbook covers a large historical period: from the emergence of almanacs-calendars in the Middle Ages to the modern era, with fragmentary references to the foreign history of almanacs. The textbook is intended for students studying in the educational programs of "Journalism" and "Russian Philology" at all levels of professional education, both within core and elective disciplines.
