Lev Nikolaevich Modzalevsky (1837-1896), closest comrade and employee K.D. Ushinsky, became accidentally a poet: Ushinsky asked him to prepare suitable poems for the textbook "Native Word". Modzalevsky offered the verses of his own composition (they were signed by initials or not signed at all) Following the distribution of many publications of the "native word" in all corners of Russia, some of these verses have long become famous (although the name of their author is almost unknown).
"Incorrect" poetry of Modzalevsky took a unique place in the history of Russian children"s literature. The vigorous, realistic, perky, but connected with softness, sentimentality and restrained edification, the direction of Mozalevsky’s poems tied the era of Pushkin and Zhukovsky with the 20th century.
Collection of poems L.N. Modzalevsky was published for the first time after 1916
