Long, long ago it was. The world was different, and so were the people. Christianity came to Rus, took root in the big cities, while in the villages and hamlets people lived by pagan laws. The young healer Milolika showed great promise and even managed to make enemies among the priests. But then a Orthodox monk appeared on the outskirts, and confused the girl's thoughts, made her think. So she left her father's house and went in search of the truth, whatever it may turn out to be. But the world is vast and full of dangers. Milolika encountered bandits, fell into slavery, met a fellow unfortunate soul, and together they managed to escape from the clutches of the outcasts, to continue her search, to encounter love, to fight an old priest from her native village who refused to calm down in his burning hatred. And then she had to adapt to the new order, learn to live among Christians, feeling their distrust of the former pagan, their fear of her forgotten talents. And fate itself, as if on purpose, kept throwing new challenges her way...
