Boris Nikolaevich Shiryaev (1889–1959) was a writer, journalist, and one of the prominent figures in the literature of Russian post-war emigration. His "The Unquenchable Lamp" (1954) consists of a series of stories about the most vivid events and encounters of the author in the Solovetsky labor camp. This book, combining the merits of memoirs and original artistic prose, remains one of the most vivid testimonies of the terrible time of Bolshevik terror, of the sufferings and heroism of thousands of new Russian martyrs and confessors.
