For the first time, essays by the prominent representative of the conservative wing of the Russian intelligentsia, Prince Nikolai Davidovich Zhevakhov (1874-1945), have been collected. Having the ideal of Holy Russia, he constantly longed for its realization - through the veneration of saints, church construction, and pilgrimages to holy sites. His church and public service in Russia ended with the position of associate prosecutor of the Holy Synod, about which he left well-known memoirs. After the collapse of the empire, Zhevakhov emigrated to Italy, where he took care of a monastery established with his participation for pilgrims to the tomb of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker in Bari.
